The Descartes Legacy by Nina Croft

Un po' sci-fi, un po' thriller con una punta di romance, due bei personaggi come protagonisti principali e una organizzazione criminale degna della migliore Spectre di James Bond e nasce un bel libro: The Descartes Legacy, con una trama avvincente, piena di ritmo, mistero e colpi di scena, senza tralasciare le scene molto hot tra Luke e Jenna.

È il secondo libro che leggo di Ms Nina Croft, e credo di poter dire di aver trovato un'altra autrice da seguire con interesse in futuro e devo mettere nella mia personale wish-list i libri da lei pubblicati in precedenza.

Lucas Grafton ha trascorso gli ultimi dieci anni a dare la caccia al Conclave, una organizzazione segreta che lo ha privato di tutto: sua moglie, sua figlia e la sua reale identità. Adesso ha una traccia da seguire, che riguarda un imminente attacco terroristico che sta per colpire Londra, nome in codice Descartes.

Nata con una malattia genetica, Jenna Young ha sempre saputo di essere differente. Ma la morte improvvisa del padre la catapulta in una realtà fatta di omicidi e terrorismo e non se la sarebbe mai aspettata. Per tentare di rimanere viva deve risolvere un mistero vecchio di venticinque anni e il suo unico alleato è un uomo duro e pericoloso alla ricerca della sua vendetta; l'unico indizio che ha Jenna sono le Descartes Highlands, nome di un'area della Luna.

Il bisogno di Luke di vendicarsi coincide con la ricerca del passato di Jenna e tutti e due devono affrontare insieme il Conclave. Nel frattempo scoprono un verità nascosta riguardo la malattia di Jenna, una verità che metterà in discussione la reale natura umana della ragazza.

Jenna è un personaggio femminile molto tosto, non si lascia andare a facili isterismi nonostante la sua vita venga travolta da un'ondata di violenza e una lunga serie di omicidi. È sveglia, intelligente e pronta a reagire a quello che le succede. A causa della sua presunta malattia ha sempre tenuto tutti a debita distanza, ma in questa occasione ha bisogno di aiuto.

Luke ha vissuto per anni con un solo scopo: consumare la sua vendetta, per ottenerla è sempre stato disposto a utilizzare qualsiasi metodo: il fine giustifica i mezzi, ma questa volta, senza volerlo, permette a Jenna di superare le sue barriere e coivolgerlo su un piano personale.

La narrazione è coinvolgente, e pian piano si scoprono tutti i retroscena sulla vita di Jenna e il suo legame involontario al Conclave.

Lauren, una delle persone al vertice dell'organizzazione, è un personaggio che mettevi brividi, visto la sua freddezza e il suo cinismo.

La conclusione della storia ha un finale abbastanza aperto, in sospeso... diventerà una serie? Ho provato a guardare sul sito dell'autrice, ma non viene accennato niente a tal proposito. Vedremo, anche perché alcune curiosità su come andrà a finire tra Luke e Jenna mi sono rimaste.

A little bit Sci-Fi, a little bit thriller with some romance, two nice characters as main protagonists and a criminal organization worthy of the best James Bond's Spectre and we have an amazing book: The Descartes Legacy, with an engaging plot, with a fast pace, mystery and plot twists, not to mention the very hot scenes between Luke and Jenna.

This is the second book I read by Ms Nina Croft, and I believe I can say that I have found another author to follow with interest in the future and I must put in my personal wish-list her books previously published.

Lucas Grafton has spent the last ten years hunting the Conclave, a secret organization who took everything from him: his wife, his child, his very identity. Now he has a lead—an imminent terrorist attack on London—code-named Descartes.

Born with a genetic illness, Jenna Young has always known she was different. But the unexpected death of her father catapults her into a world of murder and terrorism she never expected. In order to stay alive, she must solve a twenty-five year old mystery—and her only ally a hard bitter man in search or retribution, her only clue the Descartes Highlands, an area on the near side of the moon.

Luke’s need for revenge collides with Jenna’s hunt for the past, and together they must stand against the Conclave. All the while uncovering the truth behind Jenna’s illness, a truth that will make Jenna question her very humanity.

Jenna is a female character very tough, she will not let go easily hysterics despite her life is overwhelmed by a wave of violence and a lot of murders. She's smart, intelligent and ready to react to what happens. Because of her supposed illness she  has always kept everyone at a safe distance, but on this occasion she needs help.

Luke has lived for years with only one purpose: his revenge, for this he has always been willing to use any method: the end justifies the means, but this time, unwittingly, Jenna goes under his skin overcome his barriers and draw them on a personal level.

The narrative is engaging, and slowly you find out all the ins and outs of Jenna and her relation unintentionally with Conclave.

Lauren, one of the people at the top of the Organization, is a character who get me chills, seen her coldness and cynicism.

The conclusion of the story has an ending quite open, ... Is going to become a series? I tried to look at the author's website, but it isn't any word at all in this regard. We will see, because I have some curiosity about what is going to happen between Luke and Jenna.

Anteprima: Snow White and the Vampire by Marina Myles

Nuova reinterpretazione della favola di Biancaneve, che se devo dire la verità non mi ha entusiasmato. Se non fosse stato per il personaggio della matrigna/strega con tanto di specchio, titolo a parte, non avrei capito che si trattava di Biancaneve.

Alba Spencer pensava di essersi lasciata alle spalle, per sempre, il suo passato in Romania e la magia nera che la perseguitava. Vive a Londra, al sicuro, ed è una delle prime donne avvocato. Ma anche Londra nasconde un suo lato oscuro. Un uomo chiamato lo Squartatore bazzica le strade durante le ore notturne. Ci sono voci che dicono che la sua odiata matrigna l'ha nuovamente trovata, e suggeriscono che l'incubo della sua infanzia è tornato a farsi vivo. E insieme a loro riappare quello che una volta era stato il suo primo amore, un ragazzo zingaro perseguitato da una maledizione, e che ora è cresciuto, diventando un uomo ancora più seducente e terrificante di quanto lei potesse immaginare...

Dimitri Grigorescu è divenuto un chirurgo, un gentiluomo e... un vampiro. La brama che possiede il suo corpo è difficile da tenere sotto controllo e in realtà non è in grado di sapere di cosa potrebbe essere capace. Per combattere il male e le incertezze, Alba deve far conto solo sul suo giudizio e sul desiderio che offusca i suoi dubbi.

Giusto mi ero dimenticata che tra la nostra Biancaneve/avvocato e il Principe Azzurro/Vampiro c'è anche una versione di Jack lo Squartatore.

La cosa che mi è meno piaciuta è stato proprio il protagonista maschile, Dimitri, probabilmente ho degli standard un po' alti per quanto riguarda i vampiri e trovarne uno inesperto, che per quanto dotato di poteri soprannaturali, si fa incarcerare e accusare di omicidio e salvare da Biancaneve è decisamente troppo.

Anche il romance tra lui e Alba non l'ho trovato così coinvolgente.

La Londra nella quale è ambientato il romanzo è un po' surreale, Alba può tranquillamente confidare alle sue amiche che il famoso chirurgo è un vampiro e tutte le credono sulla parola.

Ultima critica, la matrigna e Simona/vampira, compagna d'infanzia di Dimitri, vengono eliminate in un battito di ciglia.

Nota positiva? Amo il folklore gitano, le maledizioni e tutto ciò che ci è associato e lo stile con il quale è stato scritto il libro mi è piaciuto.

New  reinterpretation of the story of Snow White, which, if I have to tell the truth,I was notai eager. If it wasn't for the fictional stepmother/witch complete with her mirror, title aside, I wouldn't have understood that it was about Snow White.

Alba Spencer thought her past in Romania and the dark magic that haunted it was behind her forever. She is one of the first female barristers now, safe in London. But London has its dark side, too. A man called the Ripper stalks the midnight streets. There are rumors that her hated stepmother has found her again, suggestions that the nightmares of her childhood are returning. And with them appears the cursed Gypsy boy she once loved, grown into a man more seductive and more terrifying than she ever could have dreamed…

Dimitri Grigorescu has become a surgeon, a gentleman—and a vampire. The lusts that drive his body are scarcely under control, and even he does not truly know what he is capable of. To fight evil and confusion, Alba must rely only on her wits—and a desire that overwhelms her doubts…

I had just forgotten that between our Snow White/barrister and Prince Charming/Vampire there is also a version of Jack the Ripper.

The thing I liked least of all was the male protagonist, Dimitri, I probably have some high standards regarding vampires and find this one, inexperienced with supernatural powers, that he is imprisoned and accused of murder and saved from Snow White is definitely too much.

Also the romance between him and Alba I didn't find so compelling.

The London in which it's set the novel is a bit surreal, Alba can safely confide to her friends that the famous surgeon is a vampire and they all believe her instantly.

Last criticism, her stepmother and Simona/vampire, Dimitri's childhood companion, go down too shortly.

Positive note? I love the Gypsy folklore, curses and all this things and the book is well written in its style.

Mark of the Gladiator by Heidi Belleau and Violetta Vane

Bello, veramente bello e un po' al di fuori delle mie solite letture, visto l'ambientazione storica di questo libro M/M nell'Antica Roma, con tanto di gladiatori, schiavi, nobilitas romana, complotti e intrighi di famiglia.

Non ci viene risparmiata la crudezza e la crudeltà che veniva utilizzata all'epoca, dove le vite degli schiavi contavano davvero zero, oppure la decadenza e lussuria nelle quali indugiavano i nobili Romani, ma questo mette in risalto ancora di più la dolcezza della storia d'amore che nasce tra i due protagonisti.

Dopo una poco apprezzata dimostrazione di pietà nell'arena, il gladiatore Anazar viene allontanato dal terreno dove si svolgono i combattimenti e viene ceduto al nobiluomo Lucius Marianus, tramite un contratto tra quest'ultimo e il suo padrone, che lo incarica di addestrare un gruppo di gladiatrici femmine. Le donne delle quali si deve occupare sono demoralizzate, impreparate e mostrano i segni degli abusi che hanno subito. Anazar ha appena due mesi di tempo per prepararle per l'arena, e il suo nuovo padrone esige la perfezione.

Il gladiatore rimane sorpreso dalla sua volontà di riuscire nell'impresa... volontà che va al di là del puro istinto di auto conservazione. Forse perché Marianus è eccezionale: bellissimo, onorevole, nobile e sembra mostrare per Anazar lo stesso interesse che il gladiatore prova per lui.

Ma la rivalità tra Marianus e il fratello fa nascere un complotto con l'obiettivo di commettere un'omicidio, coinvolgendo nella cospirazione Anazar e le sue gladiatrici. Uno dei fratelli può offrire la salvezza... ma quale? In un mondo dove una vita vale meno del volere della folla o dei capricci di un padrone, ci può essere spazio per l'amore? Come gladiatore le difese di Anazar sono impenetrabili. Ma come uomo, impara a sue spese, che un'armatura o uno scudo in realtà non possono proteggere il suo cuore.

Molte cose mi hanno sorpreso in questo libro: prima di tutto pensavo che la storia fosse incentrata su Marianus e Anazar, mai fidarsi delle apparenze, e come diceva De Niro nel film Gli Intoccabili, Marianus è "tutto chiacchiere e distintivo".

Al principio ho faticato ad accettare la rassegnazione e sottomissione di Anazar al suo destino, alla sua vita da schiavo e alla sua accettazione per le umiliazioni continue alle quali viene sottoposto; saperlo gladiatore e combattente da una parte strideva con la sua vita da schiavo, ma in seguito ho capito che forse sono io ad avere una visione "Disney"della vita di uno schiavo.

Felix è un meraviglioso, l'ho adorato da subito! Ribelle, sarcastico, un po' perverso, ma con un animo dolce e puro, pieno di ideali che si scontrano con la realtà della società in cui vive. Grazie a lui riusciamo a scoprire il vero Anazar che si nasconde dietro una facciata da perfetto schiavo senza volontà e speranza.

Le gladiatrici e le loro storie arricchiscono il racconto, mostrandoci ancora di più, se possibile, la crudeltà presente nell'Antica Roma.

Aelia è perfetta nella sua capacità di essere spietata, manipolatrice ed egoista, la cattiva per eccellenza, mi è piaciuta molto.

Un bel libro con un ottima trama ben scritta, personaggi ben caratterizzati.

Mark of the Gladiator è il quarto libro della serie Warriors of Rome, ma si può leggere some libro a sé.

Come in molte letture M/M le scene di sesso sono descritte in modo molto esplicito, con un alto contenuto erotico, ma molto intense, passionali e Felix e Anazar sono spettacolari insieme.

Nice, really nice and it's not one of my usual readings, as the historical setting of this book (M/M) in ancient Rome, with Gladiators, slaves, Roman nobilitas, plots and intrigues.

We are not spared the crudity and cruelty that was used at the time, where the lives of slaves were meant less than zero, or the decay and lust in which Roman nobles lingered, but this emphasize even more the sweetness of the story between the two protagonists.

 After an inconvenient display of mercy in the arena, the gladiator Anazâr is pulled from the sands and contracted to nobleman Lucius Marianus to train his new stable of female gladiators. His charges are demoralized and untested, and they bear the marks of abuse. Anazâr has a scant two months to prepare them for the arena, and his new master demands perfection.

Anazâr is surprised by how eager he is to achieve it—far more eager than a man motivated only by self-preservation. Perhaps it’s because Marianus is truly remarkable: handsome, dignified, honorable, and seemingly as attracted to Anazâr as Anazâr is to him.

But a rivalry between Marianus and his brother sparks a murder conspiracy, with Anazâr and his gladiatrices caught in the middle. One brother might offer salvation . . . but which? And in a world where life is worth less than the pleasures of the crowd or the whims of a master, can there be any room for love? As a gladiator, Anazâr's defenses are near impenetrable. But as a man, he learns to his cost that no armor or shield can truly protect his heart.

Many things surprised me in this book: first of all I thought the story was focused on Marianus and Anazar, but never trust appearances, and as De Niro speaked in the movie The Untochables, Marianus is "nothing but a lot of talk and a badge".

At the beginning I struggled to accept the resignation and submission of Anazar at his fate, to his life as a slave and his acceptance for the humiliations to which he is forced to accept;  I have different  picture in my mind for him as Gladiator and fighter and with his life as a slave too, but later I realized that maybe I have a vision "Disney" about slaves life.

Felix is a wonderful, I loved him at first sight! Rebellious, sarcastic, a little wicked, but with a sweet and pure soul, full of ideals which collide with the reality of the society in which he lives. Thanks to him we can discover the true Anazar that hides behind a facade of perfect slave without a will and hope.

Gladiatrices and their stories enriched the book, showing even more, if possible, the cruelty in ancient Rome.

Aelia is perfect in her ability to be ruthless, manipulative and selfish, real bad, and I liked her a lot.

A beautiful book with a good story well written, well characterized characters.

Mark of the Gladiator is the fourth book in the Warriors series of Rome, but you can read it stand alone.

Like many readings M/M sex scenes are described in a very explicit way, with a high erotic content, but very intense, passionate and Felix and Anazar are amazing together.

Anteprima: Forsaken by Jacquelyn Frank

Forsaken è per ora il libro che preferisco in questa nuova serie The World of Nightwalkers di Jacquelyn Frank, anche se, a mio parere, non è allo stesso livello della precedente serie dei Nightwalkers, manca qualcosa, i personaggi dei Bodywalkers non riescono a prendermi totalmente, peccano un po' di carisma.

I Bodywalkers, per chi non avesse letto i libri precedenti, sono creature immortali che vivono sotto forma incorporea in un luogo senza tempo, in attesa di trovare un ospite mortale nel quale reincarnarsi, sempre che il soggetto prescelto sia disposto a far coesistere la propria anima con quella dell'immortale.

Come mercenario Leo Alvarez ha visto ogni sorta di cose... ma non si sarebbe mai aspettato che il suo migliore amico diventasse l'ospite dell'anima di un antico Faraone d'Egitto. In Jackson adesso coabita un Bodywalker e Leo è obbligato a fare i conti con una realtà nella quale sono presenti creature soprannaturali, che sono molto più pericolose di qualunque cosa abbia mai incontrato.

Ma quando Jackson rimane ferito durante l'attacco di un dio demone, Leo deve allearsi a un'altra creatura soprannaturale, una Night Angel, per salvare il suo amico. Con la sua pelle nera come la notte, i capelli bianchi come la neve e il suo corpo che è pure perfezione,  la Night Angel risveglia in Leo un desiderio bruciante, ma rifiuta di lasciarsi intimidire dai suoi poteri o da quelli di chi vuole distruggere il suo amico. Nasce un'insolita alleanza, carica di tensione sessuale, ma i due devono unire le loro forze per sconfiggere un male superiore.

Il personaggio di Leo è quello che mi è piaciuto di più, un umano con i cosiddetti attributi, nonostante tutto quello che ha passato; una testa calda, che però conosce il vero valore dell'amicizia ed è disposto ad affrontare i suoi demoni interiori e, in questo caso, anche reali per salvare un amico in pericolo.

La trama è ricca di colpi di scena e " giochetti" che l'autrice tira a noi lettori, creando scenari catastrofici, dai quali i personaggi potrebbero essere travolti, un po' come nel libro Adam dei Nightwalkers.

Finalmente si ha un barlume della coppia Menes/Hatshepsut, del loro amore immenso al di là del tempo e degli ospiti umani.

La Night Angel , descrizioni a parte del suo aspetto che è veramente spettacolare, non mi ha molto impressionato come protagonista femminile.

Cosa che ha fatto, invece, i cattivi di turno Chatha e Apep: alcune scelte di Ms Frank le ho trovate inquietanti e poco gradevoli, ma poi vi avrei detto che il cattivo di turno non lo era abbastanza, quindi rabbrividisco in silenzio.

Un interrogativo mi è rimasto, e non so se è una dimenticanza della autrice, o un modo di lasciare un'altra cosa in sospeso, insieme ad altre: ma qual è il prezzo da pagare al Jinn da parte di Leo per il suo desiderio?

Forsaken is my favorite book in this new series The World of Nightwalkers by Jacquelyn Frank, at the moment, though, in my opinion, is not at the same level as the previous Nightwalkers series, it's missing something, the characters of Bodywalkers fail to get me totally, perhaps a lack of a little bit of charisma.

The Bodywalkers, for those who hadn't read the previous books, are immortal creatures living without a body form in a timeless place, waiting to find a mortal as a host in which they can reincarnated, as long as the chosen subject is willing to co-exist his soul with that of the immortal.

As a mercenary, Leo Alvarez has signed on for a lot—but he never signed on for his best friend becoming host to the soul of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh. Jackson is now inhabited by a Bodywalker, and Leo is forced to grapple with a realm of supernatural beings far more dangerous than anything he’s ever encountered.
But when Jackson is wounded by an attack from a demon god, Leo must team up with another supernatural creature—a Night Angel—to save his friend from utter destruction. With skin as black as midnight, hair as white as snow, and a body of pure perfection, the Night Angel arouses a burning desire in Leo, even as he refuses to be intimidated by her power—or the power of those who would destroy his friend. An unusual alliance is forged, electrified by sexual temptation, and together the two must unite their strengths to bring down a supreme evil.

Leo's character is what I liked most, a human with so-called attributes, despite everything that he has passed; a hotheaded, but he knows the true value of friendship and he is willing to face his inner demons and, in this case, even real, to save a friend from danger.

The plot is full of twists and "tricks" that Ms Frank brings to us readers, creating catastrophic scenarios, from which the characters could be overwhelmed, a bit like Adam in the book of the Nightwalkers.

Finally you have a true glimpse of the couple Menes/Hatshepsut and their immense love beyond time and human hosts.

The Night Angel, descriptions aside of her gorgeous appearance, didn't  impressed me very much as the female protagonist.

What  has done, on the other hand, the bad guys Chatha and Apep: some Ms Frank's choices I found scary and not very pleasant, but then I was going to tell you that the bad guys were not quite so bad, then I shiver in silence.

A question for me remained, and I don't know if it's a forgotten by the author, or a way to leave something else pending, along with other things: what is the price to be paid to the Jinn by Leo for his wish?

The Marquess Who Loved Me by Sara Ramsey

Con The Marquess Who Loved Me, terzo libro della serie Muses of Mayfair , Ms Sara Ramsey si conferma una delle mie attuali autrici preferite di regency del momento.

Questo è il libro che mi è piaciuto di più nella serie, forse perchè si discosta un po' dai soliti romance nei quali scocca la scintilla tra due sconosciuti; in questo caso i protagonisti si sono già conosciuti, anche in senso biblico direi, ed Ellie lascia Nick, per compiacere il volere del padre, che la vuole far sposare con qualcuno in possesso di un titolo nobiliare.

La Marchesa di Folkstone è una vedova conosciuta da tutti per le sue feste, la sua collezione d'arte e la sua inosservanza delle regole. Ma Ellie Clairborne sa che tutto questo sta per finire, insieme a lei. Il nuovo marchese è stato il suo primo amore - quell'uomo dal fisico scolpito e il ghigno sarcastico che la ossessiona ogni volta che prende in mano un pennello per dipingere. Se lui dovesse mai ritornare per reclamare la sua eredità, il cuore di Ellie non potrebbe sopravvivere nel vederlo ancora.

Nicholas Claiborne non ha più messo piede in Inghilterra, da quando ha visto Ellie sposare suo cugino. Nick odia la trasformazione di Ellie, cambiando colei che lui conosceva, una dolce debuttante, in una consumata seduttrice. Ellie lo disprezza per averla abbandonata. Ma tra loro ci sono ancora scintille che riaccendono la passione, che sarebbe dovuta essere il loro destino. Mentre ciò che richiedono una all'altra diventa sempre più oscuro e l'assassino è vicino a loro, devono decidere se proteggere i cocci rimasti dei loro cuori frantumati o trovare un modo per innamorarsi ancora.

Il libro è scritto veramente bene, un'ottima trama, arricchita da un po' di giallo, tutti i personaggi ben delineati e descritti, anche quelli che compaiono in modo marginale e l'ironia di fondo, nei dialoghi tra i personaggi che ho sempre ritrovato in questa serie.

Ellie e Nick sono entrambi segnati dal passato, che ha lasciato in loro ferite indelebili, Nick tenta di odiare la donna che si ritrova davanti, ma in lei non trova traccia della ragazza che conosceva. Ellie a sua volta incolpa se stessa e teme l'intensità dei sentimenti che prova per Nick.

Amore e odio, vendetta e perdono, passione e dolcezza.

Bellissimo e non vedo l'ora che prosegua la serie, spero con il libro su Prudence.

With The Marquess Who Loved Me, the third book of the series Muses of Mayfair, Ms Sara Ramsey is one of my favourite authors of regency in this moment.

This is the book that I liked more in the series, perhaps because it differs a bit from the usual romance, in which two strangers fall in love, in this case the protagonists have already known each other , even in the Biblical sense I would say, and Ellie leaves Nick, to please the wishes of her father, who wants to marry her with someone noble.

The widowed Marchioness of Folkestone is notorious for her parties, her art collection, and her utter disregard for the rules. But Ellie Claiborne knows her destruction is near. The new marquess is her first lover – the man whose sculpted body and sardonic grin haunt her every time she picks up her paintbrush. If he ever returns to claim his inheritance, her heart won’t survive seeing him.

Nicholas Claiborne hasn’t stepped foot in England since watching Ellie marry his cousin. He has no use for the gorgeous, heartless girl who betrayed him, or the title she abandoned him for. The book is written really very well, excellent plot, enriched with a little mistery, all the characters well delineated and described, even those which appear marginally and I love the irony, in dialogues between the characters that I've always found in this series.

Ellie and Nick are both marked from the past, which left indelible scars in them, Nick tries to hate the woman who finds in front of him, but he can't find the girl he knew. Ellie in turn blames herself and she fears the intensity of feelings for Nick.

Love and hate, revenge and forgiveness, passion and tenderness.

Beautiful and I can't wait to continue the series, I hope the next book is about Prudence.

Meravigliosa short-novel nella quale ritroviamo Dragos e Pia e il loro piccolo Liam, un vero peccato che sia solo un racconto breve... Thea Harrison anche in poche pagine riesce a coinvolgerti nel suo mondo pieno di magia, con questi due personaggi che io al momento considero la migliore coppia nel paranormal romance. Il loro legame è unico, nonostante le loro profonde diversità che emergono anche in questa storia, nella quale li troviamo in vacanza alle Bermuda, dopo che Pia diciamo ha creato i presupposti per far credere a Dragos di aver scelto lui di andare in vacanza, furba la ragazza!

Nell'ultimo hanno con la nascita del loro piccolo e gli impegni di Dragos per il controllo dei Wyr li ha messi a dura prova.

Adoro il bisogno che hanno l'uno dell'altra, la loro passione e la profondità dei loro sentimenti.

Dragos è un personaggio molto intenso, e a volte quando leggo le sue parole mi vengono i brividi, lascia senza fiato. E poi vederlo alle prese col suo piccolo non ha prezzo, un'emozione unica.

L'autrice ha arricchito il racconto scrivendo alcune parti secondo il punto di vista di Liam, il piccolo drago, che con le sue capacità riesce a far venire i capelli bianchi a Dragos e Pia.

Bellissimo racconto, se amate la Elder Races series, da non perdere.

Amazing short-novel in which we find Dragos and Pia and their little Liam, a pity that it is only a short story ... Thea Harrison in a few pages manages to get involved in her world full of magic, with these two characters that I consider at the moment the best pair in the paranormal romance. Their bond is unique, despite their deep differences that emerge in this story too, in which we find them on vacation in Bermuda, after Pia has created the conditions to make believe to Dragos he's the one to choose to take a holiday, clever girl!

In the last year they gave the birth to their baby and  Dragos'work  with the Wyr demesne control put them to the test.

I love that they need each other, their passion and the depth of their feelings.

Dragos is  very intense, and sometimes when I read his words leave the mark , he leaves you breathless. And then see him with his baby is priceless, so sweet.

The author has embellished the story by writing some parts according to Liam's point of view, the little dragon, whose ability gives white hair to Dragos and Pia.

Beautiful story, if you love the Elder Races series, not to be missed.

A Marquess for Christmas by Vivienne Westlake

Un bel romanzo historical romance, un po' tendente all'erotico, per le vacanze di Natale? Perchè no? Leggendo questo libro sicuramente non ci si annoia.

Una vedova bisognosa di aiuto. Un Marchese dissoluto determinato a non sposarsi.

Quando Violet Laurens viene avvicinata lungo la strada da dei ladri, un bellissimo sconosciuto interviene in suo aiuto. Ferito in modo grave, l'uomo non si ricorda la sua identità e Violet lo accoglie in casa sua per prendersi cura di lui. Ma più cominciano a conoscersi, più la donna teme l'inevitabile momento in cui se ne andrà.

Il Marchese di Kittryk ha giurato di non avere intenzione di sposarsi, nonostante il volere della sua famiglia. Non vuole avere niente a che fare con altezzose giovani donne della buona società, anche se una bellissima vedova riesce a mettere in discussione tutto quello che lui ha sempre pensato.

Ogni singolo tocco e sguardo tra di loro fa crescere una passione che non possono negare... o controllare. Ma quando Kit non sarà  più in grado di nascondere la sua identità,   sarà disposto a sacrificare il suo orgoglio e reclamare Violet per se stesso? Oppure tornerà alle sue abitudini dissolute, distruggendo il fragile sentimento che non avrebbe mai creduto di provare?

Molto carino da leggere, alcune scene con protagonista Violet sono molto divertenti, nonostante sia una vedova che necessita aiuto per salvarsi dall'aggressione dei ladri, anche lei ha i suoi metodi poco ortodossi per difendersi. Il suo è un bel personaggio femminile, determinata, indipendente,di buon cuore, appassionata e intelligente.

Kit in sua presenza riesce finalmente a essere se stesso, senza dover ostentare i comportamenti inopportuni, che gli fanno regalare critiche feroci da parte della sorella, sì è un po' malizioso, ma altrimenti non avremmo la loro storia.

Ha trovato un piccolo limbo felice, e avendo paura di rovinare tutto, preferisce nascondere il fatto di aver ritrovato la memoria e prova a vivere la sua relazione con Violet senza il peso del suo titolo nobiliare, ma come semplice uomo.

Una bella storia, con scene erotiche ben scritte e non volgari, anche se a un certo punto ci si è infilata anche una piccola scena BDSM, soft, ma oramai è dappertutto.

A nice historical romance novel, a little erotic,  is it a good reading for the Christmas holidays? Why not? Reading this book will definitely not get you bored.

A widow in need of rescue. A dissolute Marquess determined not to marry.

When Violet Laurens is accosted on the road by thieves, a handsome stranger comes to her rescue. He is badly injured and doesn’t remember who he is, so she takes him home and cares for him. But the closer they become, the more Violet fears the inevitable moment when he must leave her.

The Marquess of Kittrick has vowed not to marry, despite his family’s wishes. He wants nothing to do with prim and proper young ladies, even a beautiful widow who makes him question all of his previous assumptions.

Avery touch, every glance between them builds a passion that neither can deny—or control. But when Kit is no longer able to hide his identity, will he sacrifice his pride and claim Violet as his own? Or will he return to his dissolute ways and destroy the fragile love he never believed he could find?

Very nice to read and some scenes with Violet are great fun, despite being a widow who needs help to save herself from the aggression of thieves, she has her unorthodox methods to defend herself too. She is a beautiful female character, determined, independent, good-hearted, passionate and intelligent.

KiIsaiah her is finally able to be himself, without his inappropriate behaviors, flaunt that make him give fierce criticism by his sister, yes he's a little wicked with her, but without that we can't read their story.

He found a small happy place, and having fear of ruining everything, he prefers to hide the fact that he had regained his memory and he tries to live his relationship with Violet without the weight of his noble title, but as a simple man.

A good story, well written sex scenes, hot, and never vulgar, although at one point there was also a small BDSM scene, softcore, but now we can find it everywhere.

Short novel carina per una piacevole e rapida lettura, soprattutto per chi ama il genere historical romance ambientato nelle Highlands, con tanto di kilt, clan ecc...

La prima parte del racconto mi è piaciuto molto, per lo stile pieno di ironia con il quale è stato scritto; Julia, la protagonista femminile, oltre a essere intelligente, determinata e coraggiosa, è anche molto divertente nel modo di pensare e affrontare tutto quello che è successo e trova un bel match in Duncan, il bell'Highlander.

Mentre sta partecipando al matrimonio di una zia a Inverness, Julia Prentiss viene letteralmente sollevata da terra da un uomo che la rapisce per mettere le mani sulla sua eredità. Julia riesce a fuggire dalla sua proprietà nelle Highlands, solo per ritrovarsi da sola, sperduta e inseguita in una terra sconosciuta. Quando si imbatte in un uomo nudo che fuoriesce da un lago, pensa di essere caduta dalla padella alla brace, oppure no?

Duncan Lenox vive circondato dai nemici, un MacLawry nella terra dei Campbell. Con tre sorelle a casa che contano su di lui è diventato un uomo molto cauto. Ma quando una stupenda donna inglese, dai capelli ramati non ha nessun altro a cui rivolgersi, si sente in obbligo di aiutarla. I due sono costretti a trascorrere la notte in un cottage abbandonato, mentre un infuria una bufera e i nemici li circondano, e scoprono una profonda passione reciproca che li potrebbe salvare oppure rovinarli.

Il loro approccio è veramente molto divertente e per questo mi aspettavo un po' di più da questo racconto, forse la sua brevità ha influito un po' nel rendere il seguito un po' troppo scontato e affrettato. La passione istantanea ok, ma che da subito si professino profondo e intenso amore mi sembra un po' inverosimile.

Ciò non toglie che io voglia leggere altri libri di questa autrice sempre con questo tema di fondo.

A nice short novel for a pleasant and quick reading, especially for those who love the genre historical romance set in the Highlands, complete with kilts, clan etc.

I liked very much the first part of the story, for its style full of humor by the way it was written; Julia, the female protagonist, as well as being smart, determined and courageous, is also very funny in the way she thinks and deal with everything that happened to her and she  finds a good match in Duncan, the handsome Highlander.

While attending her aunt's wedding in Inverness, Julia Prentiss is literally swept off her feet by a man who kidnaps her for her fortune. Julia manages to escape from his estate in the Highlands, only to find herself alone, lost, and hunted in a strange land. When she stumbles across a naked man in a lake, she thinks her luck has gone from bad to worse…or has it?

Duncan Lenox lives surrounded by enemies, a MacLawry in a land of Campbells. With three sisters at home who rely on him, he's become a very cautious man. But when an auburn-haired English beauty has nowhere else to turn, he feels obligated to help. When the two are forced to spend the night in an abandoned cottage while a storm rages and enemies circle, they find a mutual passion that could save -- or doom -- them both.

Their approach is truly a lot of fun but I was expecting a bit more from the plot, perhaps its brevity somewhat influenced, making the sequel a little too obvious and hurried. Instant passion is ok, but now the fact they profess each other deep and intense love it seems a bit far-fetched.

I'd love to read other books by this author always in this genre.
