Kat Owens è molto vicina ha raggiungere l'obiettivo che si è preposta: far carriera e raggiungere un posto di prestigio, per dimostrare le sue capacità alla sua famiglia. Non è il momento per concedersi distrazioni in ambito sentimentale. Ma proprio uno dei suoi clienti più importanti, Erik Montague, non è d'accordo con lei. Pieno di fascino, sexy e seducente è impossibile ignorarlo o rifiutargli qualcosa. Dopo aver ceduto alle sue avances, Kat si trova a dover scegliere tra la sua carriera e l'uomo del quale si sta innamorando... pur sapendo che forse il suo amore potrebbe non essere abbastanza per salvarlo dall'autodistruzione.
Erik riesce a raggiungere lo scopo che si era prefissato, sedurre Kat per trascorrere insieme una notte di passione, ma in realtà rimane coinvolto dalla donna in un modo che non si sarebbe mai aspettato. Ha trascorso gli ultimi dieci anni afflitto dai sensi di colpa per la tragica morte della sua fidanzata e da allora ha deciso di non rimanere più coinvolto sentimentalmente con nessuna donna, concedendosi solo rapide avventure. Ma Kat con la sua personalità dolce e appassionata riesce a infiltrarsi oltre alle barriere dietro le quali Erik ha nascosto il suo cuore, forzandolo nell'affrontare il suo tragico passato e prendere delle decisioni... continuare a scappare o rischiare di amare ancora,mettendosi in gioco?
La trama raccontata nella sinossi del libro è un po' ingannevole a mio avviso, in realtà la storia non è così scontata come sembra.
I due perfetti sconosciuti si incontrano in un bar, dove sono andati per consolarsi dei rispettivi dispiaceri, provano un'immediata attrazione e trascorrono insieme la famigerata one-night stand. Noi li ritroviamo dopo un anno, in una città diversa da dove si sono incontrati e stavolta si ritrovano nel mondo reale, a dover fare i conti con i rispettivi ruoli e la profonda attrazione che continuano a provare l'uno per l'altra.
Erik è un personaggio molto intrigante, bello, ricco, sicuro di sé, ma non così superficiale come potrebbe sembrare a un primo impatto, ha degli amici fantastici, leali, che gli sono veramente affezionati e che si ritagliano un piccolo ruolo, fondamentale, in questa storia.
Kat è una ragazza tosta sul lavoro, dalla lingua tagliente se viene punzecchiata, spontanea e diretta. Al tempo stesso è molto vulnerabile negli affetti perché è incapace di razionalizzare il suo modo di amare e concedersi, quando lo fa' si lascia coinvolgere in pieno.
La loro storia è bella, hot e al tempo stesso commovente, senz'altro da consigliare a chi ama il romance.
Il nonno di Kat è adorabile, oserei dire da applausi per come si comporta.
È il primo libro della serie Heat Wave, ogni libro parla di storie di personaggi diversi e anche questa è una cosa positiva.

Reading this book I would say: there are no longer the good one-night stand, it's only a myth, seriously the protagonists start out with good intentions of enjoying a healthy adventure, but our dear Cupid loves throwing his arrows.

The story told in the synopsis of the book is a bit misleading in my opinion, in fact the story is not as obvious as it seems.
As two complete strangers Kat met Erik in a bar, where they wenform the middle of their sorrows to drink something, they feel an immediate attraction and they spend together the night, in an amazing one-night stand. We find them after a year in another city than where they met and now they find themselves in the real world, having to come to terms with their roles and the deep attraction they continue to feel for each other.
Erik is a very intriguing character, beautiful, rich, confident, but not as shallow as it may seem at a first glance,he has fantastic friends, who are truly loyal and close to him and they have a little fundamental role in this story.
Kat is a tough girl at work, with a sharp tongue if she needs to defend herself,she's spontaneous and direct. At the same time is very vulnerable in the affections because she's unable to rationalize her way to love and enjoy it, she loves always with all of her heart.
Their story is beautiful, hot and moving at the same time, definitely recommend to anyone who loves romance.
Kat's grandfather is adorable, I daresay very cool with his little nephew and I loved how he behaves.
This is the first book in the Heat Wave Series, each book tells of stories of different characters and this is a good thing.
