Anteprima: Sinner's Heart by Zoe Archer

Questa volta devo mi devo autocomplimentare per la mia furbizia... Ho iniziato il libro senza accorgermi che era il terzo libro della serie Hellraisers, una vera lince; comunque dopo un primo momento in cui non capivo benissimo il motivo per il quale Bram e Livia sono legati l'uno all'altra, andando avanti nella lettura mi si è chiarito tutto, grazie a dei piccoli riferimenti dell'autrice ai fatti accaduti nei libri precedenti.

Abraham Stirling, Lord Rothwell, è stato un combattente, un soldato arruolato durante le guerre presenti nelle Colonie Inglesi. Ma Bram torna a Londra con più incubi che racconti di gloria di cui essere orgoglioso. Cerca di annebbiare i suoi problemi passando tra le braccia di innumerevoli donne che non sanno resistere al suo fascino, e i suoi amici, con cui ha amato condividere il soprannome di Hellraisers, si accertano che non sia da solo nel perseguire questi piaceri peccaminosi.
Fino a quando il diavolo in persona, garantendo per ognuno di loro il soddisfacimento di un desiderio, spezza il loro spirito di cameratismo, mentre gli uomini vanno alla scoperta del risvolto perverso e malefico delle loro nuove capacità. Bram si ritrova legato attraverso una magia a Valeria Livia Corva, una sensuale sacerdotessa, che per prima ha invocato The Dark One, il diavolo, ed è morta durante il tentativo di rimandare il demone all'inferno.
Può essere anche un fantasma, ma Livia non è affatto un angelo. La passione sfrenata che intravvede nei ricordi di Bram è molto simile al suo stile di vita di quando la donna era ancora in carne e ossa alla costante ricerca di ampliare le sue conoscenze sulla magia e conquistarne il potere. Ma questo non le rende più facile il fatto di convincere Bram a tornare a essere il combattente che era, mentre Londra sta andando in rovina. L'intensità dei sentimenti l'uomo risveglia dentro di lei, forse possono essere la scintilla risvegliare il vero Bram.

Il libro è molto carino, un misto tra l'historical e il paranormal romance. Magia e scene d'azione in questa lotta contro The Dark One e uno dei vecchi amici di Bram, che ha ceduto la sua anima totalmente al demone, rendono la lettura molto avvincente.
Bram e Livia sono due personaggi ben caratterizzati, e con una volontà ferrea che non si arrende davanti a niente.
Inizialmente il loro rapporto uomo fantasma è piuttosto burrascoso, ma i loro scambi di battute sono molto divertenti.
Livia ha bisogno delle capacità di Bram per combattere il demone e grazie alla sua capacità di condividere le memorie del passato dell'uomo può andare oltre la sua facciata e conoscere la sua vera natura, nonostante abbia venduto la sua anima.
Bram con una Livia incorporea, per la prima volta si ritrova, per forza di cose, a doversi confrontare con una creatura femminile pari a lui, se non superiore, per conoscenze e intelligenza, dopotutto è una sacerdotessa nata ai tempi dell'Antica Roma.
Hanno un'alchimia perfetta insieme.
Entrambi sono dotati di una forte indole passionale e l'autrice è molto brava nel manifestare questo lato dei suoi personaggi.
La loro storia è sorprendente e intensa e durante la riunione finale con gli altri componenti del gruppo Hellraisers si intuisce che anche le loro storie narrate nei libri precedenti devono essere molto particolari.
Quindi praticamente letto uno, adesso mi ritrovo a dover recuperare la lettura degli altri due...

This time I'm very startled by myself for my cunning ... I started the book without notice that it was the third book of the "Hellraisers series, foxy is my second name. However, after a first moment in which I did not understand very well why Bram and Livia are related to each other, going forward in the reading I was clarified everything, thanks to the author's references to small events in previous books.

Abraham Stirling, Lord Rothwell, was a fighter once, a soldier in the Colonies. But Bram returned to London with more nightmares than tales of glory. Now he drowns his senses in the arms of countless women, while his friends, the Hellraisers, ensure he needn't sin alone.
Until, that is, the Devil himself grants them each a wish, undoing their camaraderie as they explore their wicked powers. Bram finds himself magically bound to Valeria Livia Corva, the sensuous priestess who raised the Devil the first time—and died to send the demon back.
She may be a ghost, but Livia is no angel. The raw passion she witnesses in Bram's memories isn't much different from her behavior when she had a body to enjoy. But it doesn't make it any easier to convince Bram to become a warrior again, lest all London burn. And the fierce desires reawakening within her might just start the blaze...


The book is very cute, a mix of historical and paranormal romance. Magic and action scenes in this fight against The Dark One and one of Bram's old friends, who sold his soul to the demon completely, make very compelling the reading.
Bram and Livia are two characters well defined, with an iron will that does not give up at nothing.
At the start of their story the relationship between the man and the lady Ghost is rather rough, but their exchanges and jokes are very funny.
Livia needs Bram capacities to fight the demon and thanks to her gift to share the memories of the man's past she may go beyond his facade and know his true nature, despite having sold his soul.
Bram with Livia incorporeal, for the first time finds himself, necessarily, to having to compare with a female creature equal to him, if not more, for knowledge and intelligence, after all, she is a priestess born in the days of ancient Rome.
They have a perfect alchemy together.
Both have a strong passionate nature and the author is very good at expressing this side of her characters.
Their story is amazing and intense and during the final meeting with the other members of the "Hellraisers you can imagine that even their stories told in the previous books must be very special.
So basically I read one, now I find myself having to retrieve the reading of two other ...

Lover At Last by J.R. Ward

Ho finito stamattina di leggere questo libro è posso dire sinceramente di esserne rimasta abbastanza delusa.
Le aspettative forse erano troppo alte? Forse sì, ma ho sempre creduto nelle potenzialità della Ward come scrittrice, soprattutto dopo il capolavoro fatto con Lover Reborn, in cui si era messa in gioco contro il ricordo di una coppia perfetta quale era quella di Tohr e Wellsie. In questo caso non è stata in grado di centrare il segno, e più si reputa brava una scrittrice, più critici si diventa con i suoi lavori, ci si aspetta il meglio.

Qhuinn è il figlio di nessuno, abituato a stare per conto suo, rinnegato dalla sua famiglia nobile per il suo aspetto imperfetto che non rientra nei canoni della glymera, la cerchia ristretta dell'aristocrazia dei vampiri. Finalmente ha trovato il suo posto nella vita, diventando uno dei più forti combattenti contro il nemio del vampiri i Lessers.
Ma la sua vita non è completa, anche davanti alla prospettiva di costruire una sua famiglia, si sente vuoto, il suo cuore appartiene a qualcun altro.
Blay dopo aver provato per anni un amore non corrisposto da Qhuinn  ha deciso di lasciare il passato alle spalle e ricostruirsi una vita, soprattutto dopo aver visto l'uomo che ama raggiungere quello che si era prefissato: costruirsi una famiglia con una donna, una delle elette aspetta un figlio da Qhuinn. Per lui è difficile vedere insieme la nuova coppia, ma continuare a sognare una vita agognando l'impossibile può solo riempire la sua vita di dolore e sofferenza ed è una lezione che ha già imparato.
Il destino sembra aver spinto questi guerrieri in due direzioni opposte, ma nel momento in cui la battaglia per difendere il trono del Re dei Vampiri diventa più dura, per la minaccia del nemico, Qhuinn scopre il vero significato della parola coraggio, e finalmente due cuori nati per stare insieme diventano una cosa sola.

In Lover Reborn, prima dell'epilogo, Qhuinn aveva pensato "Our future has come".
Caro il mio ragazzo io per "Our" intendevo il tuo e quello di Blay, la nostra cara Ward qui la presa un bel po' alla larga, praticamente è arrivato il futuro di tutti invece.
Questo che doveva essere il libro di Qhuinn e Blay è così pieno di sotto trame che ci ritrova continuamente sballottolati tra le varie situazioni collaterali: Xcor e Layla, Assail, Trez e iAm, i Lessers e la Banda di Bastardi. Forse ridurre un po' le divagazioni avrebbe sì ridotto le pagine del libro, che non sono poche, ma avrebbe mantenuto l'occhio del lettore su i due personaggi più importanti.
Saxton, faccio mea culpa perché non l'ho mai sopportato, è l'unico che è stato lucido e coerente e fin troppo corretto. Blay e Qhuinn come al solito, tra parole non dette, supposizioni e seghe mentali hanno fatto di tutto e di più per complicare la loro storia, per poi concludere e risolvere tutto nelle ultime trenta pagine in fretta e furia.
No, più ci penso più non mi piace come è stata gestita la loro storia. Qhuinn in questo libro è il personaggio che dà un qualcosa in più alla storia, con le sue parole, i suoi sentimenti i ricordi strazianti della sua vita, ma non possono bastare le sue frasi estrapolate per rendere un capolavoro Lover At Last.
Altra nota dolente le scene di sesso tra i nostri due cari ragazzi. Diciamo che la Ward ha fatto il suo compitino per accontentare e non scandalizzare i lettori non abituati a scene M/M; sono risultate piuttosto distaccate, senza coinvolgimento emotivo. Per carità presi dalla passione hanno spaccato lampade e si sono ritrovati non so come catapultati ovunque, partendo sano vecchio letto, ma dopo tanto travaglio un minimo di sentimento a parte il sesso selvaggio... Ci sono autrici donne di libri M/M che fanno riempire gli occhi di lacrime per la loro capacità di emozionare con i loro personaggi, così come farti venire i bollori pochi secondi dopo.
Non dico che sia un brutto libro, ma ci sono pochi sprazzi di quello che mi aspettavo e non me la sento di gridare al capolavoro solo perché la Ward è una delle mie scrittrici preferite.

This morning I finished to read this book I can say sincerely I'm a lot disappointed.
Perhaps expectations were too high? Maybe so, but I have always believed in the skills of the Ms Ward as a writer, especially after the masterpiece made with Lover Reborn which was put into play against the memory of a perfect couple asTohr and Wellsie. In this case, she was not able to hit the mark, and if I'm in love with a writer, I can be very critical when it becomes with his work, I expect the best, always.

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has finally found an identity as one of the most brutal fighters in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems to be within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another....

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: The male has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young—just as Qhuinn has always wanted for himself. It’s hard to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. As he’s learned firsthand.

Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions... but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn finally learns the true definition of courage, and two hearts who are meant to be together... finally become one.

In Lover Reborn, before the epilogue, Qhuinn had thought "Our future has come".
My dear I thought with "Our" You meant you and Blay, our dear Ms Ward has taken the long rout with thata, practically it's future of all instead.
This must be the Qhuinn and Blay's book but it's so full of too much  things about other characters, the reader is trapped between various situations: Xcor and Layla, Assail, Trez and iAm, the Lessers and the gang of bastards. Perhaps cutting some of the ramblings would reduced a bit the book pages, which are not few, and would keep the reader's eye on the two most important characters.
Saxton, I have to say I'm sorry for my thoughts about him because I was never so fond with the guy, is the only one that has been polished and correct too. Blay and Qhuinn as usual, between words left unsaid, assumptions and maddening thoughts have done everything and more to complicate their story, after that (about 550 pages) ms Ward  concludes and fix everything in the last thirty pages in haste.
No, the more I think about it the more I don't like how she handled their story. Qhuinn in this book is the character who gives a little more to the story, with his words, his feelings his sad memories of his life, but it isn't enough to make this book a masterpiece.
Another sore point: the sex scenes between our two dear guys. Let's say that Ms Ward has done her homework in order to please and not shock readers unaccustomed to M/M, scenes, but  everything was cold, without emotional involvement. Yes of course, they broke lamp from passion and lust and have found themselves,don't know how, catapulted anywhere, starting from the bed, but after much travail at least to haven't and show feelings apart from the wild sex, it will be good There are other women authors of M/M books  who do fill your eyes with tears with their writing about love scene to with , as well as make you hot, a few seconds later.
I am not saying that is a bad book, but there are few flashes of what I expected and I do not feel to shout at masterpiece just because Ms Ward is one of my favorite writers.

Paranormal, young adult, distopico, la storia di Julie Kagawa potrebbe rientrare in diverse categorie se proprio dobbiamo etichettarlo, ma rimane il fatto che questa donna coglie sempre nel segno quando decide di scrivere un libro, anche su un argomento su cui si era ripromessa di non scrivere mai: i vampiri. Per fortuna ha cambiato idea.
Allison Sekemoto è nata e cresciuta a New Covington una città governata dai vampiri, che utilizzano gli umani come loro riserve di cibo, vengono registrati come proprietà, marchiati e sono costretti a fornire delle " donazioni di sangue" programmate, cosa che comunque non impedisce agli immortali di dare la caccia alle loro prede nel modo più tradizionale.
Allie dopo aver assistito impotente alla morte della madre, costretta a fornire il suo contributo mensile di sangue, giura a se stessa che non diventerà mai carne da macello per quelle creature che odia. Preferisce una vita di lotta e stenti, vivendo ai margini della società insieme ad altre persone che come lei non sono registrate. Furti, fame e la legge del più forte sono all'ordine del giorno. Durante un raid all'esterno delle mura della città alla ricerca di cibo Allie e i suoi amici vengono attaccati e quasi tutti uccisi da delle creature mostruose, che col loro morso rabbioso ti possono trasformare in loro simili
Allie è in fin di vita, quando un vampiro si offre di trasformarla in un immortale, la ragazza vorrebbe essere abbastanza forte da rifiutare e decidere di morire, ma la voglia di continuare a vivere la tradisce, anche se trasformerà in ciò che ha sempre disprezzato e per lei comincia un nuovo e difficile cammino.
Una storia veramente bellissima, in cui vengono messe da parte le visioni romantiche del vampiro, ma viene descritta la sua natura feroce e mostruosa. Vengono raccontate anche le continue lotte interiori di Allie per tentare di conservare la sua umanità, di riuscire a trovare un equilibrio accettabile per la sua coscienza, per non trasformarsi in una di quelle creature che utilizzano gli umani solo come cibo. Il suo mentore Kanin, il suo sire, tenta di trasmetterle tutte le conoscenze possibili per difendersi e per darle la possibilità di scegliere quello che vuole diventare, cerca anche di farle comprendere la visione degli umani nei loro confronti. Questo suo percorso diventa ancora più reale e difficile quando si ritrova da sola a dover viaggiare con un gruppo i pellegrini umani. È giunto il momento di fare i conti con la sua vera natura, con la sua brama costante per il sangue, la paura di essere scoperta e i sentimenti che comunque prova per queste persone, che se scoprissero che è un vampiro la considererebbero un mostro.
Allie è un personaggio meraviglioso: forte, coraggiosa, testarda e leale, una vera eroina, formidabile con la sua katana, che la fa sembrare una dei personaggi tratti da "Kill Bill".
Zeke, il ragazzo che è parte del gruppo di umani, deve confrontare gli insegnamenti che ha sempre ricevuto per salvare le persone del suo gruppo, con i suoi sentimenti nei confronti di uno dei suoi più pericolosi nemici.
Insieme scoprono che non tutto è bianco o nero, e il loro è un difficile percorso per imparare a fidarsi l'uno dell'altra, per salvare il gruppo e condurli in salvo nella città di Eden.
La trama è ricca di azione e ben articolata, non si può fare a meno di andare avanti per scoprire cosa succederà ai protagonisti del libro, dove li porterà il loro cammino, e non vige la regola che "tutte è bene quel che finisce bene". La strada è lunga e non tutti sono destinati a raggiungere Eden.
Ho adorato il personaggio di Kanin, il sire di Allie, un personaggio complesso, travagliato, ma che ha molto da dire. Insieme ad Allie uno dei migliori nel libro.

Paranormal, young adult, dystopian, the story by Julie Kagawa could fall into several categories if we have to label it, but the fact remains that this woman shoots always on the mark when she decides to write a book, even on a subject on which she had always told to never write: vampires. Fortunately She changed her mind.
Allison Sekemoto was born and raised in New Covington a city ruled by vampires who use humans as their food reserves, they are registered as property, branded and are forced to provide "blood donation" regularly, which however does not prevent the immortals to hunt down their prey in the more traditional way.
Allie after witnessing her mother's death, forced to provide her monthly blood contribution, swears to herself that she will never become a pièce of meat for those creatures she hates. She prefers a hard life of struggle and, living on the fringes of society together with other people who like her are not registered. Theft, hunger and the law of the strongest are the order of the day. During a raid outside the city walls in search of food Allie and her friends are attacked by monstrous creatures, which with their rabid bite can turn you  into rabids.
Allie is dying, when a vampire offers to turn her into an immortal, the girl would like to be strong enough to refuse and decide to die, but her desire to continue living betrays her, although she will be transformed into what she always despised and for her it begins a new and difficult journey.
It's a really beautiful story, which put aside romantic visions of the Vampire, but describes their feral and monstrous nature. It shows the continuous inner struggles of Allie to try to retain her humanity, to be able to find a balance acceptable to her conscience, not to turn into one of those creatures that use humans as food. Her mentor Kanin, her sire, tries to give her all the possible knowledge to defend herself and to give her the possibility to choose what she wants to become, also he tries to make her understand the vision of humans towards them. This journey becomes even more real and hard when she finds herself alone with a group of pilgrims and she must travel with them. It is time to come to terms with her true nature, with her constant hunger for blood, and she must deal with the feelings that she still feels for these people, that if they found out that she is a vampire they would consider her a monster.
Allie is a wonderful character: strong, courageous, stubborn and loyal, a real heroine, amazing with her katana as one of the women we can see in "Kill Bill".
Zeke, the guy who is part of the human group, must deal with the teachings that has always been received  to save people in his group, and with his feelings towards one of his most dangerous enemies.
Together they discover that not everything is black or white, and theirs is a difficult path to learn to trust each other to save the group and lead them to safety in the town of Eden.
There's a lot of action in the plot and it is well articulated, you can't help but go ahead to find out what happens to the protagonists of the book, where their fate will lead them on the way, and there is no rule about an happy ending. The path is long and not everyone is destined to reach Eden.
I adored the character of Kanin, the sire of Allie, a complex, troubled character, but that has a lot to say. Along with Allie is one of the best in the book.

Anteprima: Highlander Taken by Juliette Miller

Mi è cascato per caso l'occhio su questo libro, caso è un termine un po' fasullo quando mi riferisco alla parola Highlander, infatti sono i libri che preferisco e quindi sono sempre a caccia di qualche libro che mi è sconosciuto e sono stata premiata.

Highlander Taken è il secondo libro della trilogia del Clan Mackenzie, ma come capita spesso in questo genere di serie, i libri si occupano di storie di coppie diverse e si possono leggere come libri autoconclusivi se si vuole; ci sono dei piccoli riferimenti al libro precedente, che naturalmente mi hanno incuriosita per leggerne la storia prossimamente.

In questo libro, invece, viene raccontata la storia di Kade Mackenzie e Stella Morrison.

Il padre di Stella vuole stringere un'alleanza con il potente Clan dei Mackenzie e per raggiungere il suo scopo non si fa scrupoli nell'obbligare la figlia Stella a sposare Kade, uno dei fratelli del Clan, contro la sua volontà.

La ragazza è terrorizzata dal dover sposare un uomo dall'aspetto così selvaggio e dal carattere mercuriale; non sono nemmeno rassicuranti tutte le voci che circolano sulla sua reputazione, che vengono inclementemente riportati a Stella.

Eppure quell'uomo così spaventoso con lei si dimostra paziente, onorevole e pian piano tenta di abbattere tutte le sue paure e riserve, conquistando la sua fiducia, dimostrando che tutte le voci riferite dagli altri forse sono infondate.

Kade ha un compito difficile deve inserirsi nel Clan dei Morrison, conquistare il rispetto di uomini tutt'altro che disponibili nei suoi confronti, per rafforzare le capacità di difesa quasi nulle del Clan che in futuro passerà sotto la sua guida e al tempo stesso deve affrontare la diffidenza e il rifiuto di una moglie a cui è stato imposto un matrimonio non desiderato.

Durante questo percorso non mancheranno complotti e tentativi di tradimento da parte di chi non accetta l'arrivo di un Mackenzie e solo il fragile rapporto di fiducia e amore con Stella potrà aiutare Kade a sconfiggere un nemico che si nasconde all'interno del Clan.

La storia mi è piaciuta molto soprattutto grazie ai personaggi di Kade e Stella. Lui è oserei dire perfetto, un uomo di gran temperamento e orgoglio, che però tenta di costruire da subito un rapporto di fiducia con la moglie, tentando di scoprirne i segreti e l'origine dei suoi comportamenti. La sua pazienza insieme alla sua sensualità sono un mix irresistibile.

Stella, per quanto maltrattata in passato, ha conservato il suo spirito combattivo e pian piano acquisisce sicurezza, fiducia e sfodera anche lei i suoi artigli per sostenere il marito.

Viene conquistata da quest'uomo rude e che al tempo stesso la mette al centro delle sue attenzioni e le dimostra continuamente quanto lei sia importante come persona.

Le scene d'amore scritte dall'autrice sono molto hot, al limite dell'incendiario, ben scritte, una marcia in più per il libro.

Veramente un bel romance.

My eyes dropped accidentally on this book, but when I refer to the word Highlander nothing is too accidentally, indeed are my favorite stories and so I'm always on the hunt for some book that for me is unknown and have been awarded.

Highlander Taken is the second book of the Clan Mackenzie trilogy, but as often happens in this kind of series, the books dealing with stories of different pairs and you can read the books as singular if you want; There are small references to the previous book, which of course I'm now curious to read  soon.

In this book, however, is told the story of Kade Mackenzie and Stella Morrison.

Stella's father wants to forge an alliance with the powerful Clan  Mackenzie and to achieve bis purpose he forces his daughter to marry  Kade, one of Clan's brothers against her will.

The girl is terrified to marry a man, a warrior, that looks so wild and with a Mercurial temper; all the rumors circulating about his reputation aren't even so reassuring, and naturally are reported to Stella.

Yet the man so scary with her proves to be patient, he slowly try to knock down all her fears and reservations, conquering her trust, showing that all thevthings said from others perhaps are unfounded.

Kade has a difficult task. He must fit into the Clan Morrison, gaining the respect of the men but they don't want him as leader , he must to strengthen the defence capabilities of the Clan, which in the future will be under his leadership and at the same time faces mistrust and rejection from his wife that she didn't want an  imposed, unwanted marriage.

During this course there will be plots and attempts of betrayal by those who cannot accept the arrival of a Mackenzie and only the fragile relationship of trust and love with Stella will help Kade to defeat an enemy that lurks within the Clan.

 I liked very much thevtwo characters of Kade and Stella. I can say he's almost perfect, a man of great character and pride, he try to build a relationship of trust with his wife,  discovering her secrets and the origin of her behaviors and fears. His patience with his sensuality are an irresistible mix.

Stella, as abused in the past, has preserved her fighting spirit and slowly she acquires security, trust and she pulls her claws out to support her husband.

She is in thrall by this rude man who at the same time puts her at the center of his attention and continually proves that she is important as a person.

The love scenes written by the author are very hot, and steamy, well written, a very good thing for the book.

A really nice romance.

Valutare questo libro non è semplice, se doveva essere un romanzo historical romance M/M ho idea che lo scrittore abbia un po' toppato nella fase romance del racconto, infatti lo stile narrativo è piuttosto freddo, poco coinvolgente e la storia d'amore,che dovrebbe essere un punto focale dl libro, non mi sembra verosimile o comunque appassionante.

D'altra parte invece il contesto storico è ben sviluppato e approfondito, con una trama interessante che si sviluppa durante il periodo di profonda lotta e ribellione degli scozzesi per ottenere l'indipendenza dall'Inghilterra.

L libro racconta la storia di Ragnar un fedele vassallo scozzese, la cui vita cambiata radicalmente dopo l'incontro con Gylis un giovane guerriero che nutre un profondo odio per gli invasori inglesi. Tra i due nasce una breve e intensa relazione destinata però a essere di breve durata a causa delle missioni pericolose in cui si avventurano i due per contrastare il nemico.

Lo scopo della vita di Ragnar diventa la ricerca della vendetta contro gli inglesi, seguendo l'esempio di William Wallace, che è stato catturato dal nemico, e crea uno suo gruppo di combattenti per raggiungere il suo obiettivo.

Durante una delle suo battaglie contro il re d'Inghilterra, Ragnar viene a contatto con il figlio del suo nemico, il principe Edward e tra i due nasce un'istantanea attrazione, che però per entrambi vorrebbe significare la forma di tradimento più grave a causa delle loro origine e dei loro ruoli. I due sono costretti a scontrarsi sul campo di battaglia, anche se ben presto si ritrovano a doversi confrontare coi loro sentimenti.

Ho trovato inverosimile lo sfociare di queste improvvise passioni in amori istantanei non appena le varie coppie Ragnar/Gylis e Ragnar/Edward si incontrano, così come non credo he all'epoca i guerrieri omosessuali si lanciassero così spensieratamente e all'improvviso l'uno nelle braccia dell'altro. Come già detto tutto il racconto relativo a battaglie e ribellione, intrighi di corte, complotti e tradimenti è ben sviluppata ma a questo punto si potevano tralasciare i vari incontri sessuali tra i vari personaggi presenti nel libro, che hanno solo una valenza di merce di scambio tra uomini, per ottenere sempre e comunque qualcosa, ma che hanno poco di romantico.

Ragnar è sicuramente il personaggio migliore nel libro per le sue caratteristiche.

It's not so easy to give a rating at this book, if it was to be a historical romance M/M novel I think the writer has a little messed up with romance part of the story, the narrative style is rather cold, and the love story that should be a focal point of the book, doesn't seem likely so  or it isn't very exciting.

On the other hand the historical context is well developed and deepened, with an interesting plot that speaks about the period of deep struggle and rebellion beetween Scottish and English, during the fight for indipendence of Scotland.

The book tells the story of a loyal Scottish vassal  Ragnar, whose life changed dramatically after meeting Gylis a young warrior who has a deep hatred for the English invaders. Between the two there is a short and intense short-lived love story because of their dangerous missions against the enemy.

Ragnar life's purpose becomes the pursuit revenge against the British, and following the example of William Wallace, who was captured by the enemy, he creates a group of fighters to reach his goal.

During one of his battles against the King of England, Ragnar meets with his enemy's son, Prince Edward, and they feel a very strong attraction ,  but for both of them would mean the most serious treachery for their origin and their roles. The two are forced to fight on the battlefield, although they soon find themselves having to face their feelings.

I found very strange these sudden passions that become instant love as soon as the various couples Ragnar and Ragnar Gylis/ Ragnar/Edward meet, as I don't think  gay warriors at the time go around so carelessly and suddenly trew themselves  in each other's arms. As mentioned above all the story of the battles and rebellion, court intrigues, conspiracies and betrayals is well developed but at this point you could leave out the various sexual encounters between the various characters in the book, they only have a valence of bargaining chip between men, to get always something, but there's a very little of romanceabout that

Ragnar id definitely the best character in the book because of his characteristics.

The Baby Bargain by Jennifer Apodaca

Bel libro romance contemporaneo, ben scritto, con una interessante trama, nella quale la storia d'amore e attrazione tra Adam e Megan, già di per sé complicata, si intreccia con il misterioso tentativo di far finire in prigione la protagonista femminile.

L'ultima cosa che Megan si aspetterebbe dopo una lunga giornata di lavoro presso il suo studio veterinario è ritrovarsi di fronte Adam, il suo ex ragazzo ed ex marine. Questo incontro può diventare per lei un terreno molto pericoloso; infatti l'uomo non è a conoscenza di un segreto che la donna gli ha tenuto nascosto nell'arco degli ultimi tre anni dal loro ultimo incontro. Il segreto ha un nome Cole ed è il figlio concepito dopo l'ultima notte che i due hanno trascorso insieme. Dopo quella serata Adam aveva già deciso di abbandonare la città e ritornare in missione nei Marines. Il suo attuale ritorno in città è legato al tentativo di cancellare i ricordi legati al passato e alla vita da incubo trascorsa  con i genitori, vendendo la casa paterna. Il problema è che l'attrazione presente tra Megan e Adam li spinge sempre uno verso l'altra, come se il tempo non fosse mai trascorso.

All'improvviso Megan si ritrova coinvolta, malgrado la sua innocenza, in un accusa che la potrebbe portare in prigione e si vede costretta a rivelare la verità ad Adam, per fare in modo di proteggere e tutelare il bambino. E' costretta a dover concludere un accordo con l'uomo che le ha sempre detto di non volere legami e soprattutto una famiglia, senza spiegargliene i motivi, ma lui è l'unico che la può aiutare.

Il romanzo è ben scritto, la storia coinvolgente e i personaggi, soprattutto Adam, intensi e ben descritti. La lettura del libro grazie a questi motivi è molto rapida e piacevole.

La storia tra Megan e Adam, nonostante i loro problemi personali è molto bella, passionale e profonda. Il bambino è delizioso, i momenti in cui è presente dolci e divertenti.

E' anche presente la giusta suspence legata ai problemi con la legge di Megan e l'evoluzione del caso.

This is a very nice Romance contemporary book, well written, with an interesting plot in which the romance and attraction between Adam and Megan, already in itself complicated, is intertwined with the mysterious attempt to end up in prison the female protagonist.
The last thing that Megan would expect after a long day of work at her veterinary studio is to find herself facing Adam, her ex-boyfriend and ex marine. This meeting can become for her a very dangerous terrain; in fact, the man is not aware of a secret that she has kept over the past three years since their last meeting. The secret has a name Cole and son conceived after the last night they spent together. After that evening, Adam had already decided to abandon the town and returning to mission in the Marines. Actually his return to the city is tied to his attempt to erase the memories of the past and his nightmarish life spent with parents, selling the family home. The problem is that the attraction between Megan and Adam is strong as ever it pushes them towards each other, as if time had never spent.
Suddenly Megan finds herself involved, despite his innocence, in an accusation that could lead her to prison and she is forced to reveal the truth to Adam, in order to protect and safeguard the child. She is also forced to conclude an agreement with the man who has always said that he doesn't want ties and above all a family, without telling her the reasons about this, but he is the only one that can help her.
The novel is well written, the story engaging and the characters, especially Adam, intense and well described. The Reading of the book for these reasons iis very fast and pleasant.
Megan and Adam's story, despite their personal problems is very beautiful, passionate and profound. The child is cute and the moments with him in the story are sweet and funny.
It's also perfect the suspense related to Megan's law problems and the evolution of the case.

Bellissimo questo secondo libro della serie regency romance Legendary Lovers di Nicole Jordan. Mi piace quando c'è un filo comune che lega diversi libri, ma possono essere lo stesso letti singolarmente e considerarsi autoconclusivi. Nella serie Legendary Lovers vengono raccontate le vicende amorose dei componenti della famiglia Wilde, una nobile famiglia che per onorare appieno il proprio cognome è rinomata nell'alta società per il comportamento bizzarro e un po' libertino dei giovani componenti della sua famiglia: i cugini Wilde.

Una di queste stranezze è che volendo trovare l'amore della vita per i propri cari, alcuni componenti della famiglia pensano sia giusto ispirarsi ai grandi amori delle coppie più famose della letteratura.

In questo caso ci ritroviamo di fronte ai nuovi Romeo e Giulietta.

Lord Jack Wilde, giovane conosciuto da tutti i componenti dell'alta società per essere un dongiovanni ribelle, viene spinto dalla cugina a infiltrarsi di nascosto a un ballo in maschera, per conoscere quella che, secondo l'intraprendente cugina, è la donna ideale per lui, Sophie, la vera Juliet per lui, visto i rapporti burrascosi che intercorrono tra la famiglia Wilde e i Frostin, a causa di una vecchi faida. Jack cede alle insistenze della ragazza a cui è molto affezionato, e osservando la giovane Sophie rimane colpito dalla sua bellezza e in un incontro ravvicinato ne può apprezzare lo spirito sincera e il modo di fare diretto. Mantenere la promessa fatta alla cugina di rubare un bacio alla bella Sophie è tutt'altro che cosa sgradita e Jack rimane sorpreso dall'istantanea attrazione che scatta tra lui e la giovane.

Sophie rimane sorpresa e divertita dall'intraprendenza del famoso Lord Jack, così come si scopre estremamente sensibile al suo fascino, ma il suo destino è già programmato da anni, è stata allevata con lo scopo di sposare un uomo d'alto rango, per risollevare la propria famiglia da grandi ristrettezze economiche, e la festa in maschera è stata organizzata per permetterle di frequentare maggiormente l'uomo che il padre vorrebbe che sposasse: un anziano Duca.

Jack non sopporta l'idea che Sophie debba sposarsi per motivi di convenienza, prova una profonda attrazione per lei e decide di conquistarla, nonostante la sicura opposizione dei genitori di lei. Consapevole del suo fascino utilizza tutte le armi a sua disposizione per convincere la ragazza ad andare contro il volere dei genitori, e assecondare la sua natura appassionata, che in un matrimonio col prescelto sposo sarebbe destinata a soccombere rendendola infelice.

Questo regency è scritto veramente bene, ha una trama ricca, interessante, divertente, con un buon ritmo che rimane costante per tutta la storia.

Jack è un personaggio affascinante, seducente, ma nel suo profondo nasconde molto di più e leggendo la storia del suo passato, che ha una forte influenza sul suo modo di essere, non si può rimanerne che colpiti da lui.

Sophie si trova in mezzo a due fuochi: il dovere verso la sua famiglia e l'attrazione che prova per quell'uomo imprevedibile che è Jack, ma di fronte alla sfida di quello che lui potrebbe farle provare non si tira indietro e pian piano ne scopre un uomo ben diverso dalla facciata che è disposto a mostrare a tutti quanti.

La famiglia Wilde nel suo insieme è meravigliosa, piena di calore e affetto nei rapporti tra i suoi componenti.

In questo libro viene raccontata una bellissima storia di passione, amore, amicizia, ma anche tristezza, in grado di commuovere in alcune piccole sue parti.

Ne consiglio veramente la lettura e da parte mia voglio leggere il primo libro di questa serie che mi era sfuggita.

Amazing book from the regency romance series Legendary Lovers by Nicole Jordan. I love when there is a common thread that links several books, but you can read them as a single story. Legendary Lovers series speak about the love stories of family Wilde, a noble family that to honor fully its surname is renowned in high society to the bizarre behavior and for its charming young members known as beautiful rakes, they're the Wilde cousins.

One of these quirks is that someone of them wants to find the love of life for the loved ones, some family members think it's fair to take inspiration from the great loves of literature's most famous couples. 

In this case we find ourselves in front of the new Romeo and Juliet. 

Lord Jack Wilde, known by all members of society to be a rogue, is pushed from his cousin to infiltrate secretly in a masquerade ball. She thinks he will found there the perfect woman for him, Sophie, the real Juliet for him, given the stormy relations occurring between the family Wilde and the Fostin due to an old feud. Jack surrenders to this cousins insistence,he is very fond of her, and observing the young Sophie is struck by her beauty and during a close encounter he can appreciate the spirit sincere and direct nature of the girl. Keep the promise made to her cousin to steal a kiss at the beautiful Sophie is not so an unwelcome thing for him and he is surprised by the deep attraction that takes between him and the young istantly. 

Sophie is surprised and amused by the resourcefulness of the famous Lord Jack, and she finds out she's extremely sensitive to his charm, but her fate is already programmed for years, she has been raised in order to marry a man of high rank, to raise his family from great economic hardship, and the fancy dress party was organised to allow her to attend the man that his father wants her to marry an elder Duke. 

Jack can't stand the idea that Sophie is forced to marry for reasons of convenience, he feels a deep attraction for her and he decides to conquer it, despite the opposition of her parents. Conscious of his charm, using all the weapons at his disposal to convince the girl to go against the wishes of their parents, he wants to prove and indulge her passionate nature, that in a marriage with the chosen ancient duke would be destined to succumb making her unhappy. 

This regency is written really well, has a texture rich, interesting, funny, with a good pace that remains constant throughout the story. 

Jack is a charming, a seductive character, but in his deep he hides much more and reading the story of his past, which has a strong influence on his way, it's impossible to be remain unaffected by him 

Sophie is between two fires: the duty to her family and the attraction she feels for that unpredictable man who is Jack, but she wants to face with the challenge of what he might let her feel and she discover there's more behind the façade mask that the man is showing to everyone. 

The Wilde family as a whole is wonderful, full of warmth and affection in relations between its components. 

This book is about told a beautiful story of passion, love, friendship, but also sadness and strong emotion in some small parts. 

I really recommend this reading and from my side I want to read the first book in this series that I missed.

Tucker's Fall by Eliza Gayle

Primo libro della trilogia Purgatory Masters di Eliza Gayle.

La giovane professoressa universitaria Maggie Cisco, decide di tornare nella sua piccola città di origine dopo uno scandalo che l'ha coinvolta e le ha fatto perdere il lavoro,  finire in prigione e ha fornito al marito una buona scusa per chiederle il divorzio, attribuendole la colpa del fallimento del loro rapporto. I giornalisti non le danno tregua, visto l'argomento abbastanza scottante che l'ha coinvolta, in seguito a una sua ricerca personale e professionale sullo stile di vita che implica pratiche BDSM. L'ideale in questo momento della sua vita è ritirarsi in un posto tranquillo e rielaborare tutto quello che le è successo scrivendo una sorta di memoria.

Mentre sta tornando a casa, una tormenta di neve la blocca per la strada e viene in suo aiuto una sua vecchia conoscenza delle scuole superiori Tucker Lewis, che nel frattempo si è trasformato in un uomo affascinante, ricco e misterioso.

Tucker sapeva del ritorno in città di Maggie, la donna che è rimasta nei suoi ricordi, dopo averle rubato di nascosto un bacio diversi anni prima. A sua volta il passato di Tucker non è stato una passeggiata, non estraneo a scandali a sua volta e tuttora ci sono delle ripercussioni nella sua vita a causa di questo, ma col ritorno di Maggie tutto passa in secondo piano. Tucker è convinto che Maggie sia la donna che ha sempre cercato, la sub perfetta per il suo bisogno di soddisfare i suoi desideri di Dom e vuole mostrare a Maggie dove la può condurre la sua vera natura, se la smetterà di negare la realtà.

Ma i soldi non possono cancellare il passato e i segreti nella vita di Tucker potrebbero rovinare per sempre un legame così fragile in cui la fiducia è fondamentale.

Il libro è carino, avvincente e con una bella trama. I due personaggi sono ben caratterizzati e le dinamiche che si sviluppano tra di loro molto affascinanti e hot.

C'è un giusto alone di mistero intorno al passato di Tucker che crea curiosità e aspettative, senza risultare pesante per lo sviluppo della storia tra i due personaggi.

Un libro BDSM con una bella storia di base che e' sicuramente da consigliare per chi ama questo genere. Spero che il secondo libro della trilogia venga pubblicato presto per vedere come proseguono gli eventi che in questo libro rimangono in sospeso.

The book is riveting and cute, with a nice texture. The two characters are well characterized and the dynamics that develop between them very charming and hot.
There is a righteous aura of mystery around Tucker's past that creates curiosity and expectations without being heavy for the development of the history between the two characters.
A BDSM book with a nice story that it is definitely recommended for anyone who loves this genre. I hope that the second book of the trilogy will be released soon to see how can evolve the events that in this book are pending.

Anteprima: Lord of Secrets by Alyssa Everett

Non sono rimasta particolarmente entusiasta da questa lettura historical romance, il famoso segreto del tormentato Lord Deal si è trascinato fino quasi la fine del racconto penalizzando secondo me la possibilità di sviluppare la trama in modo migliore. Solo nelle ultimissime pagine si è intravisto un barlume di come potrebbe essere stato carino questo libro.

Rosalie Whitwell è una giovane ragazza che ha trascorso la sua infanzia viaggiando per il mondo seguendo le orme del padre, esperienza insolita per una ragazza dell'epoca. Durante la loro ultima attraversata dell'Oceano per fare ritorno in Inghilterra il padre muore all'improvviso per un attacco cardiaco, lasciando la giovane sola e di fronte a un futuro incerto. Infatti l'unico parente che dovrebbe prendersi cura di lei ha una pessima reputazione, beve troppo, ha sposato un'attrice di teatro creando uno scandalo e potrebbe riservare alla giovane spiacevole attenzioni.

Sulla stessa imbarcazione è presente Lord Deal, un marchese dal passato tormentato sin dall'infanzia per lo scandalo causato dalla morte del padre per suicidio, episodio che lo ha fatto crescere isolato dal resto della società. Nonostante il suo carattere riservato e apparentemente scontroso, l'uomo colpito dalla ingenuità e dal buon cuore della giovane non riesce a rassegnarsi al destino che la può attendere,  e decide di proporle di sposarlo per garantirle un futuro migliore.

Rosalie che aveva provato un'immediata attrazione e simpatia per Lord Deal accetta di divenire sua moglie, ma scopre in seguito che per qualche motivo quello che è diventato suo marito non ha nessuna intenzione di far diventare reale il loro rapporto di marito e moglie, a causa di qualche segreto del passato che lo tormenta.

Alla fine questo segreto non si è rivelato solo un peso per il caro Lord, ma anche per me lettrice, rendendo un po' troppo ripetitivo e noiose le vicende del libro.

Rosalie è un bel personaggio, lotta per riuscire a far uscire dalla solitudine in cui si e' rinchiuso Lord Deal, è propositiva, aperta, comprensiva, fin troppo direi. E poi dopo pagine e pagine di pensieri e tormenti di lui, salta fuori che un aspetto di lui che per lo meno avrebbe reso più interessante tutta la storia se fosse stato sviluppato prima.

Arrivare a una decina dalla fine per il colpo di scena è stato veramente troppo.

I was not particularly excited by this historical romance reading, the famous secret of tormented Lord Deal has dragged until almost the end of the tale penalizing, I think, the possibility of developing the plot in a better way. Only in the latest pages and I can see a glimpse of how it may have been cute this book. 

Rosalie Whitwell is a young girl who has spent her childhood traveling the world following her father, an unusual experience for a girl at that time. During their last crossed of the ocean to return to England her father dies suddenly of a heart attack, leaving the girl alone and facing an uncertain future. In fact the only relative who should take care of her has a very bad reputation, he drinks too much, he married an actress, creating a scandal and could reserve the young unpleasant attention. 

On the same boat there is Lord Deal, a Marquis from the past plagued from childhood for the scandal caused by his father's death by suicide, an episode which isolated him from the rest of society. Despite bis reserved nature and seemingly grumpy, the man struck by naivete and good-hearted young cannot resign himself about the fate that may await the girl and he decides to propose marriage to ensure her a better future. 

Rosalie who had feel an immediate attraction and sympathy for Lord Deal agrees to become his wife, but later she discovered that for some reason her husband has no intention to make real their relationship of husband and wife, due to some secret from the past that haunts him. 

Eventually this secret is revealed not only a burden to the dear Lord, but also to me reader, making it a little too repetitive and boring the story of the book. 

Rosalie is a nice character, struggling to succeed in extricating the solitude in which he locked up Lord Deal, she has a good heart and she gas a lot of patience with her husband, perhaps too much. And then after pages and pages of his thoughts and torments, jumps out that one aspect of him that at least would make more interesting the whole story if it had been developed before. 

Only by the end to book and was really too late.

Siamo di fronte al nuovo caso editoriale dell'anno, che ha conquistato l'attenzione di molte lettrici, che adesso attendono impazienti l'uscita del secondo libro, che racconterà la storia dal punto di vista di Travis, il protagonista maschile. Il passaparola si e' diffuso a macchia d'olio tramite forum di lettori e social network.

Camicetta immacolata, coda di cavallo, gonna al ginocchio. Abby Abernathy sembra la classica ragazza perbene, timida e studiosa. Ma in realtà Abby è una ragazza in fuga. In fuga dal suo passato, dalla sua famiglia, da un padre in cui ha smesso di credere. E ora che è arrivata alla Eastern University insieme alla sua migliore amica per il primo anno di università ha tutta l'intenzione di dimenticare la sua vecchia vita e ricominciare da capo. Travis Maddox di notte guida troppo veloce sulla sua moto, ha una ragazza diversa per ogni festa e attacca briga con molta facilità. C'è una definizione per quelli come lui: Travis è il ragazzo sbagliato per eccellenza. Abby lo capisce subito appena i suoi occhi incontrano quelli castani di lui e sente uno strano nodo allo stomaco: Travis rappresenta tutto ciò da cui ha solennemente giurato di stare lontana. Eppure Abby è assolutamente determinata a non farsi affascinare. Ma quando, a causa di una scommessa fatta per gioco, i due si ritrovano a dover convivere sotto lo stesso tetto per trenta giorni, Travis dimostra un'inaspettata mistura di dolcezza e passionalità. A mia volta mi sono ritrovata coinvolta dalla curiosità di leggere di questo famoso Travis, di cui tutte sono rimaste innamorate.

Il libro mi e' piaciuto, anche se in certi momenti avrei avuto una gran voglia di tirarle contro il muro e strangolare soprattutto Abby.

Non che Travis non abbia avuto i suoi momenti "asshole", ma lui per lo meno si può giustificare con fatto che e' un personaggio alla sua prima esperienza affettiva profonda, e' molto immaturo da questo punto di vista, ma nonostante questo si mette completamente a nudo di fronte alla ragazza che ama, senza temere le conseguenze di esporsi così tanto.

Lei invece veramente assurda, ho fatto veramente fatica a digerire i suoi comportamenti, l'ho trovata superficiale ed egoista, con una capacita' di ferire Travis in modo incredibile.

Scelte dell'autrice, ma certo il successo del libro non e' dovuto a lei.

E credo veramente che il secondo libro con il POV di Travis sarà incredibile.

Un altro difetto che ho trovato e' stato il modo affrettato con cui sono state raccontate le scene d'amore. Non dico dovessero essere particolareggiate come nei libri erotici, ma visto l'intensita' dei sentimenti dei due ragazzi forse raccontare le emozioni in modo un po' meno frettoloso sarebbe stato bello, più romantico.

Stupendi alcuni dei personaggi secondari come Fynch, Mare, Shep e la famiglia di Travis.

I found myself involved from curiosity to read about this famous Travis, of which all were in love.

I liked the book , although at certain times I had a great desire to pull against the wall and strangle the characters, especially Abby.

Not that Travis has had his moments "asshole", but I can at least justify him with the fact that for his character this is the first deep emotional experience, he is very immature in this regard, but despite this he bared his soul in front of the girl he loves, without fearing the consequences of exposing yourself so much.

On the contrary she's really absurd, I did really struggling to digest her behaviors, I found her shallow and selfish, with a capacity to hurt Travis so damn incredible.

Author's choices, but of course the success of the book is not due to her.

And I really believe that the second book with the POV of Travis will be incredible.

Another defect that I found it was so hasty in the love scenes. I'm not saying they should be detailed as in erotic books, but given the intensity of the feelings of the two guys maybe tell the emotions a little less hasty would be cool, more romantic.

Amazing some of the secondary characters as Fynch, Mare, Shep and Travis's family.

I'm a bit deluded by second book of Fairwick Chronicles . I think because setting in the summer, college closed, little interaction with what not is fantasy reality. So, in the first one hundred pages there are water and "humidity" a lot, rain, stream,in bathtube. Then there is the protagonist,Callie, who in these pages is hurt and risked to die more of one time. It's true , she is a young witch ,inexperienced and still traumatized for the things had happened in the first book but it is strange that she don't understand what happening around her. Poor Liam,beautiful characther,

misunderstood and abandoned from all,also Callie, because I have understand immediately who Bill could be and what Duncan was wrong. Maybe she was too lost in lustful thoughts . The story it enrich in the second part when finally Callie understand that something not work in herself and around and so she decided make up at situation and find how to avoid closed of portal of fairy world. The end is tragic and intense,poignant and moving. Nothing is like before , I'm sad and curious of next chapter of story,above all to know of Liam who between all protagonist , is that better drawn and coherent . Three stars because I had a difficult time getting into this second book, a bit slow and because I don't like very much when the female protagonist makes a lot wrong decisions.
