Storia carina, ma che non mi ha colpito molto nel complesso.
I romanzi Historical ambientati nelle Highland sono uno dei miei generi preferiti e la Brisbin ha scritto molti libri in questo ambito, tra cui la serie del Clan dei MacLerie, da cui poi trae origine la storia raccontata in questo racconto, sotto forma di sequel della serie originale, dato che la protagonista Lilith MacLarie è la figlia della coppia che ha dato origine alla serie del Clan.
Lilith è una giovane vedova che viene rapita da Symon, componente di un Clan, i Matheson, che dovrebbero essere alleati con i MacLerie, famiglia della ragazza.
Dopo la morte del marito Iain, trascorsi pochi mesi dal matrimonio, non avendo l'unione prodotto eredi, la giovane desidera tornare a vivere con la sua famiglia, a cui è molto legata.
Il rapimento di Lilith può causare una guerra tra i due clan e il capoclan dei Matheson, Rob non e' per niente felice dell'atto compiuto dal cugino, senza la sua autorizzazione.
Rob è in una posizione molto delicata, è subentrato alla guida del clan dopo la morte del padre, nonostante sia nato al di fuori del matrimonio. Viene scelto in quanto unico discendente maschio per linea diretta, ma ancora deve guadagnarsi la fiducia degli anziani del clan e deve affrontare le resistenze e i complotti orditi dal cugino che voleva ottenere il suo ruolo.
Rob e Lilith in realtà si conoscono benissimo, anni prima lui aveva vissuto presso il clan MacLerie ed erano entrambi innamorati e la ragazza pensava si sarebbero sposati, salvo poi essere rifiutata dal giovane in modo brusco e umiliante.
I due si trovano a dover affrontare i sentimenti che provano l'uno per l'altra, prima che arrivi il padre di Lilith, la famosa Bestia delle Highland con intenti tutt'altro che pacifici.
Quello che per me non ha funzionato e' stato il personaggio di Rob, non incarna il mio ideale e a tratti ho trovato irritante il modo in cui ha preferito umiliare Lilidh, nonostante il suo amore per lei, e cercare invece di barcamenarsi con i suoi doveri verso il clan.
Lilidh la oserei definire una santa donna a sopportare la situazione e continuare ad amarlo. E' intelligente, appassionata e molto sveglia.
Mi hanno intrigato invece i personaggi del padre e della madre di Lilidh, ho tutte le intenzioni di leggere i precedenti libri della serie del Clan e gustarmi la loro storia.

Cute story, but it doesn't suit me very well.
Historical novels set in the Highlands are one of my favorite story and Terri Brisbin wrote many books of this kind, including the series of MacLerie, from which originated this story, as a sequel to the original series, since the protagonist Lilith MacLarie is the daughter of the couple that gave the series.
Lilith is a young widow who is kidnapped by Symon, a member of a Clan, the Matheson, who should be allies with the MacLerie, the girl's family.
After the death of her husband Iain, after a few months of marriage, the union didn't produce an heir, and the young woman wants to return to live with her family, she's is very close to them.
Lilidh's kidnapping may cause a war between the two clans and Metheson's chieftains , Rob is not at all happy with the act performed by his cousin, without his permission.
Rob is in a very delicate position, he replaced the helm of the clan after the death of his father, despite being born out of wedlock. He was chosen as the only male descendant to direct line, but still he must gain the trust of the elders of the clan and must face the resistances and the warps plots by his cousin who wanted to get his role.
Rob and Lilith actually know each other very well, years before he had lived at the MacLerie clan and they were both in love and she thought they would be married, only to be rejected by the young man with an abrupt and humiliating act.
The two must face the feelings they both feel, before the coming of Lilith's father, the famous Highland Beast with no peaceful intent.
What didn't work for me it was Rob's character, he isn't my ideal kind of gero and sometimes I found him irritating, because he preferred to humiliate Lilidh, despite his love for her, and try to find always compromise with his duties towards his clan.
I think Lilidh is a saint woman to put up with the situation and continue to love him. She's smart, passionate and very kind.
I was intrigued instead from Lilidhh's parents characters, I have every intention to read the previous books in the Clan series and read their story.
